South Korea Receives First Large-Scale Green Ammonia Export, Setting a Global Record
Time : Aug 15, 2026

On July 28, 2026, Dian Tou Green Energy completed the international maritime shipment of 3,750 tonnes of green ammonia to South Korea under the FOB Lianyungang model, making it the largest single-batch green ammonia export case currently recorded worldwide.

From an industry perspective, this is not merely a cross-border shipment, but also a clear indication that China's green hydrogen–green ammonia industry chain has entered a stage of large-scale international expansion.

In terms of the trading arrangement, the FOB model means that once the goods are loaded onto the vessel at Lianyungang, the subsequent maritime transport is undertaken by the buyer. For green ammonia, a low-carbon fuel and industrial feedstock still in the stage of commercial expansion, this arrangement helps both buyers and sellers establish a clearer division of responsibilities in logistics, liability boundaries, and delivery milestones. It is also better suited to the current requirements of international buyers for stable supply and executable delivery.

Of greater significance is the market-oriented pricing mechanism of “negotiation on a transaction-by-transaction basis” adopted by Dian Tou Green Energy. Based on the information currently available, green ammonia export prices are significantly higher than domestic prices, indicating that its overseas sales are still underpinned by international demand for low-carbon feedstocks, its carbon-reduction attributes, and supply scarcity. For enterprises, this pricing approach allows flexible adjustments based on different markets and contract terms. For buyers, it means that green ammonia is not a standardized bulk commodity, and that price formation will continue to be influenced by project characteristics, delivery conditions, and market windows.

The shipment to South Korea also sends a relatively direct signal: demand for green ammonia is shifting from proof of concept toward actual procurement. Current information shows that enterprises are accelerating their expansion into markets such as the European Union, Japan, and South Korea, where greater attention is typically paid to low-carbon fuels, the substitution of chemical feedstocks, and supply-chain emissions reduction. If similar orders continue to emerge, green ammonia is likely to establish clearer application pathways among overseas energy importers, chemical procurement companies, and carbon-neutral project developers.

However, the significance of large-scale exports lies not only in the tonnage of a single shipment. More importantly, the industry chain must be able to continuously replicate its capabilities in stable production, maritime transport organization, compliant delivery, and pricing mechanisms. For market participants, the issues worth continued observation are whether subsequent orders can maintain continuity and whether China's green hydrogen–green ammonia products can achieve sustainable commercial procurement in more regions.
